Avraham Pomiansky
Son of Liebel and Veolia. Born on 12.8.1938 in Kiev, Soviet Union, he immigrated to Israel with his family in 1971. At the age of 12, Avraham began studying in a military boarding school and at the same time studied trombone. That’s how his musical career began, playing in various military settings and in several civil orchestras. After serving in a combat unit in the Red Army, he joined the representative orchestra of the city of Kiev, played in the city’s cultural and music institution, and later accompanied the Russian ice skating rink in its European tour. At the age of 24 he married, and a year later his daughter Ilana was born. In November 1971, Avraham immigrated to Israel with his family, and within a short time he was accepted to the IDF orchestra with the rank of Major General. On the 22nd of Elul 5734 (22.8.1974), Avraham died during his service, and was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Petach Tikvah, leaving behind a wife and a daughter.In a letter of condolences to the bereaved family, the unit commander noted Avraham’s great devotion to his position and attitude Warm and Lev people of his unit.
