Avoshedid, Yehoshua (Selodor)

Yehoshua, son of Mazal and Chaim Avoshedid, was born on 19.1.1930 in Jerusalem. A few months before his birth, during the 1929 riots, his grandfather and his father’s uncle and some of his family were murdered in Hebron. From the age of 14 he was a member of the Haganah and spent his days in agricultural farms in work and training. With the outbreak of the War of Independence, he immediately enlisted in the army for full combat service. He participated in battles in the city and its neighborhoods – Arnona, Talpiot, Mekor Haim, and Ramat Rachel – and participated in escorting convoys to Mount Scopus. He fell in battle on May 13, 1948, and on the 25th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949), he was transferred for burial in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
