Avnitzky, Meir


Born in 1897 in the city of Krakow, Poland, he immigrated to Eretz Israel as a pioneer in 1921. When he arrived in Israel, he lived in the “Olim” home on the Jaffa-Tel Aviv border, and on May 23, (May 5, 1921), an Arab mob attacked the Beit Ha’olim, broke into it despite the heroic defense of the residents, killing and injuring many Jews, Meir was seriously wounded and taken to Hadassah Hospital in Tel Aviv, where he died of his wounds. A. In the old cemetery in Tel Aviv, his name is commemorated in the book “Die Blotigege Tag in Jaffa”
