Avni, Baruch


Son of Hillel and Yehudit, members of Kibbutz Kfar Blum. He was born on October 21, 1946 in the kibbutz. After completing his studies at the local school, he completed a technical course and studied thermodynamics in the framework of the British Institute for Advanced Studies. He was gifted with a technical sense and developed imagination, which found expression in building models of boats, airplanes and engines. In October 1965, he was drafted into the IDF and after a basic training period he underwent a paramedics course, then volunteered for parachuting and was a paramedic in a paratroop brigade. Towards the end of 1967, he was promoted to the rank of commander of the IDF, and shortly afterwards, the Six-Day War and the battle in Bir Gafgafa, Sinai, on the fourth day of the fighting, began on May 9, 1967. He was treated for the wounded and then fell. The military cemetery for emergencies in Bari, and after a while he was laid to rest in the cemetery in his kibbutz, his memory was immortalized in his memoir, and his biography was published in the book “
