On Yom Kippur (October 6, 1973) Joseph fought in the vicinity of the Mitla road and the Suez Canal, near Maoz Fortress. His last mission was to clear the hill area that controlled the waterline from enemy soldiers, who occupied positions there. Yosef detonated a submachine gun in the company’s armored personnel carrier until the vehicle was hit by a mortar shell. Yosef was killed with the company commander and two of his friends, and was brought to rest in the cemetery of Kibbutz Hagoshrim, leaving behind his parents and sister, who was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant.
