Avitan, Abraham
son of saada and Meir was born on September 25, 1923, in Rabat, Morocco, and lived with his parents in the Jewish ghetto in Rabat. The family of six, lived in distress and poverty, like the life of most of the Jews of the ghetto in this country. Avraham received a Torah education and later worked in shoemaking and supported his poor family. He was interested in Zionism and was one of the movement’s activists in his seat. In 1949 he immigrated to Israel as part of Gahal and served in the Israel Defense Forces. On the 15th of Tevet 5709 (15.1.1949), he died of pneumonia in a military hospital and was buried in the cemetery in Sheikh Bader Bet. On the 17th of Sivan 5761 (21.6.1951) he was transferred to eternal rest on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. On Tu B’Shvat 5709, a tree was planted in his memory in the forests of the Jewish National Fund.
