Avigdor, Mordechai

Mordechai (Marko), son of Arlette and Abraham, was born in Tiberias on the 22nd of Sivan 5714, June 23 1954 and studied in the State elementary school in Safed and in the “Amal” vocational high school in Safed. Mordechai was a good and talented student. From a very young age, he was forced to help his father with family care. Mordechai was conscripted into the IDF in early July 1972 and assigned to the Armored Corps, where he successfully completed various courses and became a driver in the Centurion tank. Mordechai was a dedicated, disciplined, responsible soldier who skillfully fulfilled all the tasks assigned to him. On the 15th of Tishrai, October 11, 1973, Mordecai was killed by a direct hit on his tank during the attack on Tel Ahmar and brought to rest in the Safed cemetery. And in the letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote that Mordecai was one of the best of the tank drivers in his company and one of the best soldiers in the battalion.
