Avigdor, David

Avigdor, David

Son of Zimbul and Mordecai, was born on April 15, 1928 in the city of Adirana in the European Union. David immigrated to Israel at age 15 with his brother in “Youth Aliyah”. He was educated in Beit Yehoshua and Ben -Shemen for pioneering. David joined the Palmach and underwent basic training, but was forced to leave with his brothers and move to Tel Aviv, because his parents who remained abroad depended on his support. David was sent to the Upper Galilee and eventually served in Mishmar Hayarden, and in his letters to his brother he expressed the brutality of the war, which changed his character…”I became a savage”. David fell on the 5th of Sivan, June 12, 1948, during the attack on outpost 243 in the Mishmar Hayarden section. David worked as a translator and when he bent down he was hit by the enemy’s bullet and died. His burial place is unknown. A monument in his memory was erected in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. In June 2005, in the framework of the investigation of the Unit for Locating Missing Persons in the IDF, it was found that David was buried in a mass grave together with Avraham Pollak and Avraham Levy in the military cemetery at Rosh Pina in a grave that was associated with the fallen of Hill 243.
