Aviad, Yaakov (Yaish)

Yaakov, son of Sarah and Yaish Aviad, was born in 1926 in Yemen and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1943. The family lived in Jerusalem, in the Yemenite neighborhood of Shaarei Pina, near the Beit Yisrael neighborhood and not far from the Mea Shearim neighborhood. In 1946, Yaakov joined the ranks of the Haganah. On 11 Tamuz (18.7.1948), Private Yaakov Aviad was among the fighters injured in an attack and apparently buried under the rubble. His body was not found and he was declared missing. In 2009, an investigation by the Military Intelligence Unit led to finding his remains and his burial place is in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl.
