Avdo, Yechiel-Yechiel


Yehiel, son of Simcha and Peretz, was born on the 8th of Sivan 5705 (1945) in Basra, Iraq. He immigrated to Israel in 1951 and attended the Ussishkin elementary school and the ORT high school in Kfar Saba. He also studied theoretical mechanics at the Or Yehuda Vocational Training Center. Yechiel was a talented student and an active and energetic boy. As a son of a large family, he used to look for various jobs during vacations to help his parents support the family. Yechiel loved sports and was a member of youth organizations and a Gadna activist in Kfar Saba He loved nature and went on trips and visited various places around the country, where he took pictures with the camera he used to take with him on his trips. Yechiel was a cheerful young man who loved life and was always responsible and always willing to help others, who was very attached to his family, and who cared for his parents and younger sisters and helped the parents, and after his mother died a few years ago. Some songs remained in his estate, and he could play several instruments Yechiel was drafted into the IDF in mid-February 1963 and served in various units, both as a fighter and as a mechanic. He spent most of his service in combat units in the Armored Corps and in the Patrol. After being released from regular service, he was placed in a reserve unit and began working at the Champion Motors garage, where he excelled at work and appointed a car examiner. During the Six-Day War he fought in battles in Jenin, Jericho, and the northern front. He married his girlfriend Rachel and eventually was born to a daughter. Since his release he has served long periods in reserve duty, mainly in the Golan Heights. In that area he knew every stone and path, and was proud to come to the level with his fellow travelers and point out the places where he served as a soldier. During the Yom Kippur War Yehiel was a combat soldier in a reconnaissance battalion that operated in the Golan Heights. On October 10, 1973, he was killed and killed in the shelling of the Syrians near Mount Yosiphon. He was laid to rest in the Kfar Saba cemetery. He left behind a wife and daughter, a father, two sisters, and three brothers. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander proudly praised Yehiel’s special character, his loyalty and dedication to his role in the army, his friendship and his courage. His family donated a Torah scroll to a synagogue in Kfar Saba.
