Avda, Zohar
Son of Sa’ida and Aharon, was born in 1948 in Iraq. In 1951, with the great immigration from Iraq, Zohar immigrated with his parents to Israel. The family settled in Ramat Gan, where he attended a state religious school, and after completing six basic classes he went to work as a laborer. In June 1965, Zohar was drafted into the IDF and served in the supply force, but he was released for medical reasons in June 1965. However, in June 1968, Zohar underwent repeated medical examinations and was returned to reserve duty in the IDF. Zohar fought in the war for the Galilee, and in one of the battles his unit was bombed by Israeli planes. The unit suffered losses, but Zohar left unharmed. On June 6, 1983, he was called up for reserve duty in Lebanon. Zohar was stationed on the coastal axis, at an observation and security post. On the 23rd of Tammuz 5763 (23.6.1983) he fell during his service at the age of 35 years he was fallen. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Holon. Zohar left behind his parents, four sisters and two brothers. The commander of his unit wrote in a letter of condolence to his family: “Zohar wanted to serve in a combat unit, so he was integrated into our unit and participated in the Peace for Galilee war in the eastern sector. In his memory, a Holy Ark was placed in the synagogue.
