Aval, Ruth
Daughter of Hanna and Yechezkel were born in Ashkelon on March 8, 1961. Ruth attended the “Remez” elementary school in Ashkelon and completed her studies at ORT vocational school in Ashkelon, In mid-March 1980, as a member of the “Shoval” nucleus, she volunteered for the Nahal Brigade and was transferred to a national SHALAT unit and sent to serve in Kibbutz Yahel in the Arava. On December 20, 1981, Ruth fell during her service and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Ashkelon. She left behind her parents, three brothers and a sister. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, her commander wrote: “Ruth was a model soldier, quiet, very kind, and grateful to her friends … The fact that Ruth volunteered for the Nahal Brigade and joined the effort in the Arava farm attests to the lofty principles and ideals she hoped to realize.”
