Auerbach, Shlomo
Son of-Perahia-Bluma and Menahem was born on the 24th of Menachem in 1862 in the town of Warta, Poland. When he was three, he immigrated to Israel with his parents and brother. In the first time after her arrival in Israel, the Auerbach family lived in Jaffa and then moved to Rishon Letzion, where Shlomo studied in a “cheder” and later in an elementary school. Upon completion of his studies, which he graduated with honors, he was accepted as an apprentice in a metal workshop. He quickly got to the level of an expert, and became a foreman in a mechanical workshop. From his youth he was a loyal member of the Haganah and devoted all his free time to him. Upon reading the national institutions, he stood up for full service and served in the Givati Brigade. As a squad commander he participated in military operations in the south of the country. His subordinates admired him for his humility and kindness. As part of the “Barak” campaign to purify the southern region prior to the expected invasion, a force from Giv’ati seized the village of Beit Daras and destroyed it. In this battle he fell on 2 May 1948. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Rishon Letzion.
