Attia, Nissim-Moshe Chai

Nissim-Moshe Chai, son of Jamilia and Isaac Attia, was born on September 23, 1926 in the Nahalat Zion neighborhood of Jerusalem. A sixth child to a poor family with many children, Nissim studied in a Talmud Torah. He devoted his energies to dealing with the abandoned youth in Jerusalem. When he was 16, he enlisted in the Palmach, despite the opposition of his parents, who saw him as their only support. With courage and speed, he successfully carried out several dangerous actions, was always ready to fulfill his duties without hesitation, and fell in a special operation on the ninth of Tevet 5708 (December 22, 1947). After he fell, he was given the rank of captain. A monument in his memory was erected in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. This fallen hero is a “maklan” – a hero whose burial place is unknown.
