Attar, Yitzhak (“Izzy”)


Son of Victor and Rachel. He was born on the 23rd of Av 5713 (23.7.1953) in Moshav Elishama in Sharon. From his early childhood he inhaled the agricultural landscape. The parents settled in Kfar Malal and established themselves there, where Yitzhak grew up and studied at the Aharonovitch Elementary School in Kfar Malal and the Mossinsohn High School in Magdiel, and was a diligent, diligent and outstanding student in his studies. Did his best to satisfy his parents, and especially his mother. Yitzhak also loved the children of the moshav and served as a youth counselor at the club in the moshav. He liked to listen to records and handle radios and electronic devices. In addition, he liked to spend his free time fishing and would go out to sea as long as his time allowed him, the smile never left him and his spirit was good for him. He always knew how to calm and rest around him. His speech was handsome and so was his manners. He was one of the best students in the class, in which only selected students studied. He was comfortable and quiet and always tried to reconcile his friends and separate the hawks. He liked these qualities for all his friends and especially for his teachers at school. After completing his high school studies, he was admitted to the Magdiel High School of Technicians, but at the end of the first semester he decided to stop his studies and enlist in the IDF. He completed a course for training a tank mechanic successfully and received a certificate of excellence from his commanders. At the same time, there was a great need for a tank mechanic in Sinai – and Yitzhak was sent there. He served there for a short while and was suddenly hit by intense pain. He was hospitalized in Beersheva and two months later, on the day of the 24th of Nissan 5742 (1942), died. He was laid to rest at the cemetery in Magdiel. The commander of his unit sent a letter of condolence to his parents and wrote: “Your son Yitzhak served in my unit for a short time as a tank mechanic, but he was already demonstrating his sincere desire to join the unit, his dedication to work and his loyalty to him. Requesting that in my name and in the name of the soldiers of the entire unit you will receive our participation in your great mourning and sorrow – our sorrow. ” A regional race in his memory was held by the Yarkon Council; The trophy awarded to the winner was engraved: “In memory of the soldier from Moshav Elishama – Atar Yitzhak”. His family published a booklet in his memory and a Torah scroll was written in his name.
