Gavriel, Gaby’s loved ones, joined the IDF at the end of May 1984 and was assigned to the Signal Corps. In the spring of 1987 he began his service in the regular army and went to serve in the Southern Command as a controller in private units. He loved the army in general and his unit in particular. In 1992 he married Ilanit and the two had three children: Shir, on May 24, 1993, Yaakov, on April 3, 1996, and Rotem on September 7, 1998. In the course of his service, Gavriel moved to serve in the Amiad base of the Northern Command and set up his home in Afula. First Sergeant Gabriel Atar fell during his duty on Monday, 19 September 2001, at the age of thirty-four, and was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Afula, leaving Raya, three children, parents and two brothers.
