Asraf, Eliyahu


Eliahu, son of Sol and Shalom, was born on 11 June 1953 in Fez, Morocco, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1959. At first the family settled in Caesarea and Eli was educated there at the local school. He was enrolled in the “Yemin Ord” school in Haifa and studied in the fields of electronics and mechanics Eli was a sports enthusiast and during his leisure time exercised a great deal of activity and dealt mainly in light athletics. He had a few more hobbies; he worked electrical work for his pleasure, loved to carve wood, and he also worked in drafting. He was not sparing efforts to help others, and therefore was loved by all his friends. Although economic conditions in his home were not good at all, he was always contented, affable. Eliahu was drafted into the IDF in early August 1971 and was assigned to the Armored Force. Since he was professionally trained, he underwent courses in the corps and became an electric-tank technician. All the time Eli served in Sinai. He was a good soldier, responsible and devoted to his role, and served as an example to his friends in his good temper and in his tolerance. During the period of his service he tried not to worry his family, made sure to call home and did not much to tell about his difficulties in military life. When the Yom Kippur War broke out he participated with his unit in the battles of containment on the southern front. After the end of the Yom Kippur War, his unit joined the IDF forces on the other side of the Canal on December 21, 1973. In the area of ​​Jabel Ataka, he fell in the line of duty and was put to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. He left behind a mother, four sisters and a brother, and was given the rank of sergeant.
