Asiag, Uri
Son of Mordechai and Yekut. Uri was born in Morocco on the 1st of Av, 5626 (1.8.1926). Uri grew up in Morocco and was educated on the love of the Land of Israel. In 1950 he immigrated to Israel and settled in Tiberias. His love of the country and his devotion to the security of the state brought him on 20 March 1955 to a decision to enlist in the Border Police. He was stationed in Megiddo. Uri married a wife and they had two children. He loved to help others and gave his time a lot for this purpose. “In the spirit of his volunteering Uri served as an example for his friends,” says his friend. On the day of Adar 5707 (March 4, 1956), a message was received about a fishing boat that did not return from the fisherman in the Sea of Galilee to the coast, and was apparently captured by the Syrians. Uri and three other policemen were then attached to the Kinneret Watch Unit, and he was among those who received news of the incident and left with the rescue force in a motorized boat. A heavy fire opened from the ambush to the boat. The crew was able to inform the ambush by radio, but before the aid arrived, all four crew members were killed. Uri was thirty years old when he fell. He was brought to rest in the cemetery in Tiberias. Survived by a wife and two children
