Ashraf, David
Son of Aliya and Shalom. David was born in Morocco on July 1, 1934. He attended elementary school in Morocco until 1945, and as an adolescent joined the “Pioneering Jewish Youth” movement. In 1951 David immigrated to Israel as part of Youth Aliyah, and he is seventeen years old. Upon arriving in Israel, he joined several members of Kibbutz Eilon. After a few months he joined the army and served in the Armored Corps until the beginning of 1954. After his discharge from the army David worked at odd jobs on the kibbutz and joined the nucleus, which he intended to settle in the Galilee. At the time he became engaged, but did not merit the status of chuppah and kiddushin. On June 27, 1955, David enlisted in the Border Police and was posted as a combat soldier in Company H. His commander Moshe Fahima said he was a guy with a sense of humor, pleasant and disciplined. Self-disciplined and practical. On the fifteenth of Tammuz 5716 (June 24, 1956), the policeman David fell in combat. He was part of a force that was active in the open areas of Qalqiliya on the Jordanian border, when fire opened fire at them from the position of the Jordanian Legion. As a result of the shooting, the field of thorns was ignited and David, who was shot by the legion’s position, was killed on the spot. His friend and commander Yosef Oren, who tried to help David, was also hit and killed. David was twenty-two years old when he fell. He was laid to rest in the Haifa cemetery.
