Ashkenazi, Mordechai (“Marco”)


Son of Moshe and Sarah. He was born on the 25th of Tevet 5702 (25.12.1941) in Izmir, Turkey, where he learned only in the first grade that the family immigrated to Israel in 1949 and he was then about eight years old and settled in Nes Ziona where he continued in elementary school until he completed his studies And then went to work in the plastics factory in the area and thus helped his family, who needed him the most, because the family was in great economic straits, and his diligence and natural enthusiasm were popular with all his friends. And developed his physical fitness by lifting weights, he liked to travel in Israel in general and in Jerusalem in particular The IDF in May 1960 and after his discharge from his service he studied for three months in an educational ulpan in Tiberias. On the eve of the Six-Day War, he was called back to the flag on the third day of the war, on the day of the 5767 (1967), when he fell in battle in the Old City with mortar and courage. Was loved and accepted by the soldiers of the unit and its commanders. Was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. In the book “Marinas Gabro” of the paratroopers’ headquarters was dedicated a page in his memory and description of the last battle.
