Ashkenazi, Michael (‘Sorin’)


Son of George and Elizabeth. He was born on March 19, 1957 in Romania. In 1964, when he was six years old, the family immigrated to Israel and Michael studied in elementary schools in Ashkelon and Gedera, where he was accepted to the Amal-Champion school, where he completed his studies in mechanics, Michael was drafted into the IDF in mid-August 1976. After basic training he was assigned to the Signal Corps and transferred to a remote unit in Sinai. Michael was very attached to his parents and took every opportunity to send them peace demands, so they would not worry about him. He underwent various professional courses and fulfilled the tasks assigned to him to the satisfaction of his superiors. In addition to fulfilling his duties, Michael undertook additional tasks, such as helping the car mechanic in the unit handling and maintaining the vehicles. Since he was an excellent professional, his advice was received with appreciation. He was loved by his many friends in the unit. On the 28th of Elul 5737 (21.8.1977) Michael fell in his service, was brought to eternal rest in the military section of the cemetery in Gedera, and left behind his parents and sister in a letter of condolences to the bereaved family. .
