Ashkenazi, Eliezer

The only son of Sarah and Abraham Halevi was born in 1907 to a family of rabbis in Brusilov, Russia. As a child, he taught traditional education and studied in a yeshiva, then studied in a commercial school and acquired general education. The dream of his youth came true in 1922 with the cost of his family to Eretz Israel. His family tried to influence him to continue studying, but he saw his mission in building the country literally. He worked in construction, paving roads and in any hard work in the Dead Sea, Jericho, Tel Aviv and the Petah Tikva orchards. Member of the Haganah from 1936. Eliezer established a family, gradually settled in the moshav and devotedly managed the village grocery store. At the beginning of the War of Independence, he served in the elite unit of the Alexandroni Brigade and fell in the battle for Migdal Tzedek on the 18th of Tammuz 5708 (18.7.1948) during Operation “Danny.” Eliezer was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Petah Tikva .
