Ashkenazi, Aharon


The only son of Mazal and David Capitano was born on the 22nd of Kislav, December 24, 1929 in the city of Marmara, Turkey, and immigrated to Israel in 1933. At the beginning of the War of Independence he emerged among the first to defend Tel Aviv and fought in Salameh, Jabalya and Tel Arish, and participated in the conquest of Tiberias. On the 14th of Nissan, April 22, 1948, he fell with the “Bren” in his hand, escorting an armored vehicle that was driving to bring water. He noticed a cord that was lying on the road and went down to remove it. It was connected to a mine. He was brought to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
