Asher, Moshe (Moshiko)

Moshe (Moshiko), the only son of Rosa and Moshe Asher, was born on 25.5.1926 in Izmir, Turkey. His father died before he was born. When he was nine, he immigrated with his mother to Palestine and the two settled in Haifa. He studied at the “Bialik” Gymnasium and acquired the name of a loyal, kind and pleasant friend. In 1942, he completed a course for battalion commanders in the Hagam. He was assigned to the Haganah intelligence services. With the outbreak of the War of Independence, Moshe took a very active part in defending the lower city of Haifa and then breaking into Jerusalem. When Haifa was liberated, Moshe was transferred to the Golani Brigade where he served as a recruiting officer for the entire Galilee. On the 30th of Shevat 5709 (March 1, 1949), Moshe died of illness and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Haifa, leaving his elderly mother.
