Asher, Meir (Meirco)


Son of Leah and Chaim, was born on July 26, 1929 in the city of Varna, Bulgaria. He graduated from the elementary school, Gila Kashron, especially in mathematics, and was a well-educated boy. On November 22, 1944, he immigrated to Israel as part of Youth Aliyah and was a member of the youth movement in Dafna. His main ambition was to be educated as an agriculturalist. His core settled in Misgav Am. Meir volunteered for the Palmach service, was active during the underground, underwent a paramedic course and became a paramedic, and his right hand was broken and he was not fit for full service, but insisted on his desire to remain in the unit and took part in Operation Yiftach in the Galilee “Yoav” in the Negev Its battalion carried out the initial operation of the Yoav operation – the capture of the Beit Hanoun wedges on the night of 15-16 October 1948. This move was intended to disconnect the Egyptian forces north of Gaza and to mislead them with regard to the main sector of the effort. And in this battle he fell on the 17th of Tishrei, 5709 (October 17, 1948) while trying to save the life of the company commander, who was wounded. Despite his young age, he felt a sense of commitment to the homeland and the nation, which he had given his life to, and cared for from a distance to his beloved family, helped her and waited impatiently for her arrival for four long years. Days before her immigration to Eretz Israel, on the 17th of Iyar 5705 (4.5.1950), was transferred to the eternal rest of the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
