Ashbal, Tzafuna (Tzipa)

Daughter of Hannah and Dov (a professor at the Hebrew University), was born on the last day of Passover in Poland (during her mother’s visit to her parents’ home) and at the age of 18 months returned with her mother to Eretz Israel and grew up in Jerusalem. After completing her studies at Ein-Hahoresh and Ma’aleh Hahamisha, she returned to Jerusalem and entered the Hadassah Nursing School on Mount Scopus, and after completing her studies she was ordained as a nurse and continued to work in the hospital. In the course of her duties, she devoted herself to the patients with all her soul and hope. When the car bomb that English soldiers were serving in the service of the Arabs penetrated Ben-Yehuda Street in Jerusalem, she was miraculously saved, although the room in which she lived was found in one of the demolished buildings, but she went out safely and also treated the wounded who were brought to the hospital. She moved to Mount Scopus in the Arab neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah and participated in the convoy to Mount Scopus. Tzipa was among those ambushed and killed. She died on 4 Nisan, 13.4.1948 and was brought to rest in a mass grave in the Sanhedria cemetery.
