Asayag, David


David, son of Yosef and Yocheved Assayag, was born in Morroco in 1933. He immigrated to Israel in 1953. David worked in the Alliance tire factory and as a member of the workers’ committee, where he devoted most of his free time to treatment In 1954, he was drafted into the IDF and served in the Combat Engineering Corps. He was released from his regular service before the Sinai Campaign and recently served as a reservist. During the Six-Day War, he fought bravely in the framework of an engineering company and in the battle of Jenin, on the 27th day of Iyar 5727 (June 6, 1967), the second day of the battles, as a result of a direct hit of a tank cannon in the half-track of the platoon commander, he fell while rescuing casualties from a vehicle. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
