As’ad, Wafa


Son of Donia and Assaid. He was born on June 17, 1966 in the village of Isfiya. A member of the Druze community, to a family of ten boys and girls. Wafa was a cheerful, playful boy, always active, all joyful and youthful. He grew up in his village. He studied at the elementary school and continued with an electric program in the ORT high school, where he completed his studies with a matriculation certificate. From the age of twelve, each year, on the holiday of the Prophet Shuaib, Wafa traveled on foot from Isfiya to the tomb of the Prophet in the Kittini of Hittin near Tiberias, which attests to his great faith and physical fitness. Wafa was active in sports activities, played soccer on the Isfiya youth team and guided youth in the framework of the movement and in Gadna, and was interested in learning and understanding in many fields, from literature and poetry to life sciences. He loved to listen to music and dance, but most of all he loved to take photographs, and indeed left behind a large and beautiful collection of his photographs, most of which was his help to others, he helped many others, supported and encouraged him. At the end of July 1984, Wafa was recruited to compulsory service Army and volunteered for the infantry, paratroopers unit. After completing basic training he went on a course to operate armored personnel carriers, from where he continued with advanced training and was sent to expand his combat training in the course of infantry commanders, and he completed his training as a combat fighter. In mid-August 1987, he completed his regular service. The release certificate reads: “Quick perception, meticulous in order and cleanliness, and able to work with people.” In 1988 he joined the ranks of the career army, was sent to serve against discipline and later became a researcher in a detention facility. After his discharge from the regular army, he began his studies at the preparatory school in Haifa, and continued with the electrician-building track. During his studies he became engaged to Hanadi and with the help of his parents began building a large private house. In 1991 the two married. A year later Wafa lost his father in a car accident. A short time later, his first daughter, Einav, was born. Wafa was a very loving and dedicated father. After completing his studies, and after being trained as an electrician on behalf of the Israel Electric Corporation, he began working for the Electric Company in Haifa. He managed to work there for only three months. He was not happy when he learned that his wife was pregnant again and had a daughter. He waited impatiently for the birth of his second daughter, but unfortunately he did not. On August 29, 1993, Wafa was called up for reserve duty and went with his unit to Gaza, for patrols and operational activities. Two weeks later, on September 12, 1993, while commanding a jeep in the Gaza Strip, the force encountered terrorists. Before he was hit, Wafa managed to shoot and even attack, until he was hit by the terrorists’ gunfire from very close range. Two other soldiers, also members of the Druze community, Sergeant Mwaffaq Abu Shah and Staff Sergeant Ibrahim Shabal, were killed when he was 27, and he was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Isfiya, followed by Raya, daughter of Einab, Fuad, Amal, Shibal, Amer and Saror, and four sisters – Sarah, Dor, Bilquis and Sina – his daughter, who was named after him, was born after his fall, and was promoted to the rank of sergeant. “Wafa ‘s brother, Amal, was a senior parachutist, and the battalion commander said goodbye to Wafa:” Wafa was an excellent commander, a brave fighter who volunteered for every silk What and with his courage prevented a major disaster. “
