Asa, Menachem (Miko)

Menachem (Miko), son of Rachel and Joseph Asa, was born in 1922 in Stara Zagor, Bulgaria. Although he was a Zionist socialist, he dealt in commerce. In 1946, at the age of 24, he immigrated to Palestine. Menachem served in the Palmach in the Harel Brigade. Towards the end of April 1948, the “Yevusi” operation was carried out in the Jerusalem area, designed to create a territorial contiguity between the city of Jerusalem and the northern communities. The attack on Shu’afat, Beit Iksa, and Nabi Samuel went on for a long time. The assault began at dawn, and as the force was forced to retreat, Menachem was killed on the 14th of Nissan, 23.4.1948. He was brought to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Anavim.
