Arza, Mordechai


Mordechai, son of Sophie and Yosef Arza, was born in Bulgaria in 1931. In 1947, Mordechai immigrated to Israel illegally, on a ship called “Builders and Warriors” that was captured by the British and transferred to Cyprus. After arriving in Israel he lived for a while in Kibbutz Ma’abarot. Mordechai joined the Israel Defense Forces in 1953. In May 1961, he joined the police, where he served for thirty-three years. In October 1973, Mordechai was appointed as Commander of the Regional Operations Branch, and in January 1981 he was appointed Head of the Branch of Management in the Tel Aviv District Headquarters, with the rank of Chief Superintendent. On 26 Sivan, July 3, 1986, Chief Superintendent Mordechai Arza had a Lev attack and died. He was fifty-five years old. He was buried in the cemetery in Holon. Survived by a wife and three children.
