Arussi, Nissim
Born in 1927 in Sana’a, the capital of Yemen, and immigrated to Israel with his parents in 1930. Nissim studied at the Talmud Torah for Yemenites in Tel Aviv. Nissim joined the Haganah and was sent to a course for commanders of Yemenite immigrants. He joined Palmach training and specialized in agricultural work in Ashdot Yaakov and Misgav Am, and he also took part in transporting illegal immigrants from the Eastern countries. Nissim specialized in tours and training courses. After serving in the Palmach for 3-4 years, he was transferred to the “Razrava” and worked as a construction worker in Tel Aviv in 1947. With the outbreak of the War of Independence, Nissim returned to service, completing a paramedics course and served in this capacity throughout the war. He was a brigade sergeant in the Negev Brigade during Operation Horev to remove the Egyptian army from Israel. In a battle for the Tamila strongholds, while helping the injured, Nissim was hit by a bullet to the back of his neck and two days later died at Beilinson Hospital on 26 Kislav, December 1948. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
