Arum, Gideon


Son of Mina and Shmuel. He was born on October 21, 1938, in Kibbutz Ramat Hakovesh. When he was two years old, his family moved to Rishon LeZion, where he grew up and was educated. He began his studies at the Habib Elementary School in Rishon Letzion and continued with them at the ORT high school in Rehovot. Gidon was a member of the Hanoar Haoved movement and took part in courses in Gadna Heidi, was a radio amateur, built electronic devices and was interested in science and philosophy. He went through the entire route until completing a course for ordnance officers. In 1961 he completed his compulsory army service and volunteered for the regular army, where he married Nurit and his two children, Amit and Shmuel, and in 1966 he went to study at the Technion and completed his bachelor’s degree in production engineering, In 1980 he went on to pursue a master’s degree at Tel Aviv University, where he continued his career in the army, and contributed greatly to advancing the Merkava project, developing and promoting various subjects. He underwent treatment and hospitalization, but did not give up and continued with field and command positions in the field Dasa, the organization and the development of weapons, and his spirit did not fall, even in recent months, when the disease intensified, when treatments and suffering became more frequent, and pain could no longer be concealed, he refused with all force and courage to offer help or relief at home or work. He died after a stubborn and incessant battle in his illness and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Rishon Letzion.
