Artzi, Amos

Son of Sarah and Yaakov z”l, who fell in the War of Independence, was born on January 5, 1941, in Gan Yavne. Amos grew up and was educated in Kiryat Ata.During his service Amos asked to serve near the house, to help his widowed mother. After the liberation, Amos worked as a metalworker in a foundry factory, as a technician at the Technion and as a driver at Egged. In 1967, he returned to the army as a sergeant and served as the commander of the tank division. From February 1973, he served as a maintenance officer and his last rank was Major. At every stage of his promotion, his commanders believed that Amos was an honest, decent officer, functioning efficiently even in difficult, resourceful and energetic work conditions, courageous, very responsible and dedicated to his job, and very aware of what was going on around him. He was very popular and admired for human beings and had excellent work ability. During his regular army service, Amos went to Uganda for four months to supervise the maintenance of the tanks. His commander reported that he had worked with great devotion and showed maximum initiative in all his work. On the social side, too, he was admired and accepted both by the Ugandan soldiers and by the Israelis, who were in contact with him. As a professional, he won all the positions he held as an “excellent armament officer”. His last job was the commander of workshops. Amos died during his service on 24 January 1980 and was brought to rest in the cemetery in Haifa, where he was 39 years old when he died, leaving behind a wife, son and daughter
