Arad (Alexander Axelrod), Alexander (Alex)
Son of Rivka and Kalman. He was born on October 3, 1944 in Mantens, Cuba. Alex attended elementary and high school in Cuba. From the age of nine, Alex was active in the Hashomer Hatzair movement in Havana. In 1960 his group immigrated to Israel, but due to his illness (poliomyelitis) he remained responsible for the movement’s nest. Only in 1961 did he succeed in immigrating to Israel, together with a group of young people who joined the Youth Aliya, and so he came to Kibbutz Yehiam and joined his friends. Because of his illness Alex could not serve in the army, and instead received a responsible role in the territorial defense of his area. Alex expands his education: At the University of Haifa he studies political science, and also receives a teaching certificate on her behalf. He also studies bookkeeping at the Ruppin Midrasha and the College of Management in Haifa. From 1970 to 1969, Alex was sent on behalf of his movement to Uruguay, while at the same time teaching at a Jewish school there. On his return to Israel, Alex worked in his kibbutz with manual labor, despite his limitations. In 1981, Alex moved to Kibbutz Ramot Menashe, where he married Bel. The couple had two children. In his kibbutz, Alex worked at the Aram factory for water-meters and contributed his knowledge to the use of computer programs to promote the plant. On the 24th of Tishrei 5748 (24.9.1987), Alex fell in the line of duty while on reserve duty and was stabbed by a terrorist at the Megiddo junction while he was waiting for a ride, and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Kibbutz Ramot Menashe.
