Antorg, Yosef (Yoske)

Yosef, son of Nechama and David Antorg, was born in 1929, in Haifa, where he attended an elementary school. Together with a group of Hanoar Haoved members, he went to Kibbutz Ashdot Yaakov. Within the framework of the Palmach, he worked for many years in illegal immigration and in the struggle against the British regime in Palestine. With the outbreak of the War of Independence he served in the Negev Brigade and participated in battles and operations. In many battles he participated in sabotage operations. On the 17th of Iyar 5708 (May 25, 1948), he headed a small unit for a bold raid on the Egyptian artillery in Beit Hanoun, which continuously bombarded Nir Am and the Mekorot camp. After he laid down the explosives and the cannons were blown up, he was wounded when he returned to the base and died on the way to the hospital in Nir Am. He was buried in Kibbutz Dorot. On 4.5.1950, he was transferred to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
