Angel, Ariel (“Arik”)

Angel, Ariel (“Arik”)

Son of Daniel and Vicky. Born on 9/9/1949 to an old Jerusalem family, he studied at the “South” elementary school (named after Henrietta Szold) and at the Hebrew Gymnasium in Rehavia, where he was a member of the Scouts movement in the Masada tribe in Jerusalem. He was active and devoted every spare moment to the movement, and his loyalty to his friends was a prominent line for him both during his studies and during his military service. During his service he overcame various difficulties and proved uncompromising adherence to the goal. Military service was for him a supreme physical and mental test. He aspired to excel, participated in various courses, and completed the officers’ course as an outstanding trainee. Eric was sent to serve on the canal line and proved that he was an excellent officer. On the 24th of Iyar 5730 (May 30, 1970), an enemy ambush fell on the banks of the canal. Was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. After he fell he was promoted to lieutenant. In a letter written by one of his commanders to his parents, he described his character and said that when Erik came to him as a gunner, a quiet, shy fellow appeared, who soon proved that he was in control of the theoretical material. The commander noted: “There were a lot of good guys in my class, especially the kibbutzim, and it was hard to stand out in a company like this, and the training was difficult, the study material was extensive and the hours of guard duty were numerous and it turned out that all hours of the day were occupied. And he began to adjust … It was felt that it was hard for him, but his spirit strengthened his lean body and he stood up in an effort, worked tirelessly and encouraged the crew.In his shooting practice, Arik was nicknamed ‘the best gunner in the company.’ That Erik was a pupil. I knew he would go far, and really proved everything I expected and behaved like a hero and a great fighter, even in his last moments. “On the 30th anniversary of his death, his faithful friend, who accompanied Erik from elementary school to the end of his life, said:” Arik was a devoted and loyal friend without limit. For his friends he was willing to sacrifice everything, with all his Lev and will, naturally and naturally. A feature that characterized him was his generosity. His house was an almost permanent meeting place for his friends, and his hospitality was among the best known. Erik was not a man of manners and mouth-to-mouth talk. “He was honest with himself and others. He would not compromise, or pretend to be a man he did not like. Hence his love and devotion to his close friends, friends whom he chose and with whom he felt comfortable. By the time he enlisted in the army, his youthful appearance and low stature had plagued him a lot, but it was precisely this fact that pushed him to storm serious challenges and overcome them in the most excellent way. Thus, for example, he saw a serious challenge in guiding members of the Scouts and soon became not only a guide admired by all his comrades but also the head of the battalion, a very respectable and responsible role. When the long column was a tedious journey, up the mountain, Erik suddenly burst into the column, carrying not only the muscles of his legs but the muscles of his strong will and his desire to prove, especially to himself , Because he was able to overcome any difficulty, because of his sense of responsibility – we knew him – these qualities of strong will, responsibility, knowledge and dedication, later shaped his character as a soldier. He seemed to do it to prove to himself, more than to others, that he was capable of overcoming any challenge in his own way, hardly saying a word about time The course and stop there, has successfully met difficulties. – – – waySigal Erik included himself as a somewhat withdrawn, serious and rigid personality, but we, his close friends, also knew Erik, under the layer of seriousness and seriousness – Erik with a warm, sensitive Lev. Until recently, he did not talk much about himself, but during his last vacations he began to talk extensively about his feelings and aspirations: he preferred to form plans for the future after he was discharged from service. After resting properly and releasing itself from the tension it has been subjected to in recent months. He planned to begin his studies at the university and build his image as a civilian. “The commander of his unit wrote his parents a letter of condolence, and wrote:” That day he traveled, as he did every morning, when he commanded a tank unit escorting the patrol north of Qantara. The tank is a direct hit from a tank. For six months Arik served in my unit, first as a platoon commander and then as deputy company commander, and was an excellent officer, loyal and honest, whose soldiers admired him and his commanders complimented him. In honor of his dear memory, a grove was planted in the hills of Jerusalem on the hill of the Ein Kerem agricultural school, and a hall was set up at the “Soldiers’ House” in Jerusalem, and a generator room was set up in Magen David Adom in Jerusalem. A booklet entitled “Arik” was published, and his picture is presented in the booklet “L” is released. “Jaisy Israel holds a competition every year and is named” Young Man of the Year “.
