Amzalk, Avner (Ernest)

Son of Rachel and Meir. He was born on November 5, 1918, in Cairo, Egypt, where his family was deported by the Turks during World War I. The Amzalek family immigrated to Israel in the 17th century, was among the founders of the Neve Tzedek neighborhood in Jaffa and purchased land in Rishon Letzion. His father’s great-grandfather served as the first British Consul in Jaffa. Avner underwent a pilot course and served as a navigator in the British Royal Air Force, until the day he fell in battle in the Western Desert, and his burial place is unknown to this day. His name was engraved in a memorial monument at the British military cemetery in El Alamein, Egypt. His burial place is unknown.
