Amzaleg, Shlomo

Son of David and Flori. He was born on September 13, 1944 in Safi, Morocco. When he reached school age, he attended the Alliance school in his hometown. After completing his studies there he continued at the French school in Morocco and graduated from high school there. He also studied at the ORT school in Casablanca. In the city of Meknes, he studied Bible in “Yeshiva.” In Morocco, he was a member of the Scouts movement and loved to play the guitar and listen to music. In 1963 he immigrated to Israel and joined Kibbutz Mefalsim in Ulpan. This was in February 1964 and was assigned to the Armored Corps. When he met his brother, who was also in combat, the brother told him that two brothers did not have to serve in a combat unit, and Shlomo objected. After his discharge, he was called up for reserve duty and once served for three months as a sabotage officer in the Combat Engineering Corps. In the Six Day War he served as a driver. Afterward he continued to work in various jobs and when he was offered to continue his studies, he did not agree with a sense of responsibility towards his brother. As they continued to look for work, he was offered to join the regular army and work as a cook. He accepted the offer and was sent to work in Sinai. He was an exemplary, devoted, loyal, responsible and very well-behaved man and well liked by all of her commanders and soldiers. However, on October 26, 1968, the outpost was hit by a direct hit, and as a result he fell there (in the vicinity of the Suez Canal) and was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Ashqelon. His name is mentioned in the book “Yad LaNovelim – Bnei Ashkelon” published by the municipality.
