Amsellem, Shimon
Son of Fanny and Yitzhak, was born in Morocco on June 22, 1966. When Shimon was two years old, he immigrated to Israel with his family and settled in Acre, where he studied at the Beit Yaakov elementary school in Acre, He completed his studies at a high grade average, and at the same time studied computer programming, and was a member of a youth movement and was a counselor in it.Then he completed his studies, Shimon offered his candidacy for an academic reserve, but gave up the idea to serve in the infantry. Shimon sought to engage in the education of recruits, in order to shape them as part of the Golani Brigade’s combat unit. He took a squad commander course and then became an officer and served as a platoon commander in the Golani Brigade. Shimon displayed outstanding devotion and concern for his subordinates, great involvement in the life of his unit, the ability to reassure his subordinates, willingness to work hard and to give up personal comfort. Shimon was killed in the course of his duties on 3 May 1982. After his death he was promoted to lieutenant, and his commander said that he was a personal example of his soldiers and a symbol of the commander of the Israel Defense Forces. He was left behind by his parents and five brothers and sisters, and was commemorated in a Torah scroll donated to the Nahalat-Ya’akov synagogue in Akko 3.
