Amsalem, Robert

Son of Yom-Tov and Rosin. Born in the city of Fez in Morocco on October 5, 1940, he studied at the Ort vocational school in Casablanca and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1960. As a French citizen who lived in Morocco, He was active in the life of the Jewish community and volunteered on the illegal immigration to Israel from 1959 to 1960. When he arrived in Israel, he joined Kibbutz Beit Oren on Mount Carmel and stayed there for four years. He volunteered to help the communities of the school in time of need, integrated into social life, and was admired by all his friends and acquaintances for his kindness. Was drafted into the IDF during the last week of October 1960 and assigned to the Armored Corps. After his discharge from the army, he was called up for reserve duty from time to time and in the first week of January 1971 he received an invitation to reserve duty. About two weeks after he began his service, he was wounded while performing his duties as an enemy operative in Gaza and died on February 25, 1971. He left a wife and two children and was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Be’er Sheva.
