Amor, David

Amor, David

Son of Miriam and Shimon, was born in 1960 in Morocco. He immigrated with his parents to Israel in 1962, and the family settled in Ashkelon. The father, who owns a grocery store, barely supported his family with many children, but he took care of their education, despite his financial distress. David began his studies at the old elementary school in Ashkelon. He continued to study at a vocational school, and completed a course as a car mechanic at the ORT school in Ashkelon. During his studies David helped his father work in the store. In February 1977, David enlisted in the IDF and served in the Ordnance Corps. On October 11, 1979, he was involved in repairing a defective vehicle at the base of his unit. As he was working, another military vehicle sprang behind him, and David was crushed between the two cars. In critical condition, he was transferred to the hospital, and for a month and a half his doctors made efforts to save him. But his condition worsened. On Wednesday, October 25, 1979, David died of his wounds and was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Ashkelon, where he left his parents, seven sisters and three brothers, and wrote in a letter of condolence to his family: “David served for a year and a half As a mechanic. He was an excellent professional. We will remember him for being a loyal friend and exemplary soldier. “We all loved him and we all share the family’s sorrow.” A Torah scroll was placed in his name in the synagogue in Ashkelon, where he used to pray with his family.
