Amitai, Yaron (Yuri)


Yuri, son of Sarah and Meir Amitai, was born in1961 in Jerusalem. In January 1980, Yaron was drafted into the IDF and served in the Paratroopers Brigade. During the First Lebanon War in 1982, Yaron served as a division sergeant, and in 1984-1988 studied education at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. On August 7, 2006, Yaron was drafted in the 8th order for the Second Lebanon War. This was the second time he had been drafted into this war. On August 13, 2006, on the eve of the cease-fire, He fell in the midst of the fire of our forces in the village of Qantara in southern Lebanon. Yaron was forty-five years old, the oldest fighter killed in the Second Lebanon War. He was laid to rest in the military section of the Zichron Yaakov cemetery. Survived by his wife, daughter and two sons, parents, brother Dror and sister – Michal. After his fall he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major.
