Amirav, Abraham (‘Avi’)

Amirav, Abraham (‘Avi’)

Son of Moshe and Ora. He was born on October 2, 1957 in Afula and lived with his parents and sisters in Kfar Saba and Akko, where he completed his elementary studies at Bialik Elementary School and high school in Darski High School in Akko. He was an apprentice and an activist in the Scouts and Gadna movement and was active in the Civil Guard. My father studied music and played the piano and accordion. He studied painting and graphics at the American Institute in Tel Aviv and painted during his spare time. Was an avid sports enthusiast and loved especially swimming long distances, long distance walking and nature walks. Yes, Avi participated in Acre’s main drama club. My father was a handsome young man, very popular in society, devoted to his friends and family, loved to help others, not to receive a reward and a cover-up. Avraham was drafted into the IDF in November 1975, volunteered for the Paratroopers Brigade, went through the basic training course and was sent to a squad commanders ‘course, officers’ course, and a course for mortar commanders. Avi successfully completed these courses and returned to command and training positions. In his last position he served as a platoon commander at the training base, serving in the permanent army with the rank of lieutenant. He acquired his combat experience in the battles of Operation Litani. My father fell in the line of duty on 4 December 1978. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Kfar Saba, 21 years old, and left behind his parents and two sisters.
