Amber, Joseph

Son of Avraham and Rachel. He was born in 1949 in Baghdad, Iraq, and when he was one year old he immigrated to Israel with his family and settled in Herzliya. He completed his studies at the Weizman elementary school in Herzliya and was a diligent and outstanding student in his studies, and the difficult financial situation in his parents’ home forced him to leave for work at an early age. He joined the IDF in the middle of August 1967 and volunteered to serve in the Armored Corps. He took various courses, including a course for half-track drivers, armored personnel carriers and trucks, and ended his three years of service with respect. After his discharge from the regular service he paid, through the Employment Service, the profession of regrets and completed the course with honors. For two years he successfully ran his brother’s mechanical workshop. During the recession, he left the workshop and was hired to work as a driver in a special department in one of the offices in the Kirya in Tel Aviv. He fulfilled his difficult task to the satisfaction of his superiors, who loved him very much and trusted him in everything. On 27.12.1972, he fell during his service and was brought to eternal rest in the military section of the cemetery in Herzliya. In a letter of condolence to the family, his commander wrote: “As a commander who knew him closely, I enjoyed working with him.” He adapted quickly, took the hardest work and volunteered to drive one of the most difficult vehicles for driving and treatment. A Torah scroll in memory of him and his soul was donated by his family to a synagogue in Herzliya, and a chandelier and parochet were donated to the synagogue.
