Amar, Yosef

Yosef, son of Solika and Masoud Amar, was born in Morocco in 1946. He immigrated to Israel with his family in 1953, lived and studied in Or Akiva. He devoted his first salary to gifts for his parents. In 1964, Yosef joined the Border Police. During his service he completed a course for recruits, a course for squad commanders and a brigade commander course, and he stood out among his fellow members of the unit as a person who could be relied upon, believed in everything he did, was always the first to assist in every mission and performed perfectly. On 24 Tishrei, October 8, 1966, at 8:23 pm, explosions were heard from the citrus groves of Kibbutz Sha’ar Hagolan, and the Border Police were asked for assistance in order to ensure that there were no booby traps in the area. A Border Guard jeep was hit by a landmine and four border policemen were killed. Yosef, who was in the jeep, was wounded and rushed to the Poriya Hospital in critical condition, where he died of his injuries. He was twenty when he fell. He was buried in the cemetery in Or Akiva.
