Amar, Nissim-Ya’akov

Son of Perla and Jacob. He was born on May 6, 1921 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Shortly after his birth, his father was kidnapped and murdered by a gang of Bulgarian terrorists, and his mother raised him and cared for him alone. In 1935 the family immigrated to Israel and moved to Holon. NIssim graduated from the Safra High School in Tel Aviv where he completed his studies and enlisted in the infantry companies in Holon in 1939. In early 1940 he enlisted, despite his young age, in the British Medical Corps (RAMC). During all his years of service, he only came once for a long vacation and until the end of the war, the family received no information about the fate of her son. After the end of the war, the family managed to meet one of the soldiers who knew Nissim Ya’akov, and told him that he had been with him on the 5th of Tammuz 5702 (June 20, 1942), on a ship near Tobruk when it was attacked by the Germans. Nissim Yaakov saw from afar one of the soldiers was injured in the attack and rushed to his aid. During the course of the aid, the ship was attacked again and Nissim Yaakov was hit and killed on the spot. He was 21 when he died. He was put to rest in Tobruk.
