Amar, Jacob
Jacob, son of Sima and Eliahu, was born on December 31, 1955, in Casablanca, Morocco, and immigrated to Israel with his family in January 1962. His family settled in Rehovot and he studied at the Moriah State religious elementary school. Yaakov and his family first encountered difficulties in absorption as new immigrants who arrived in a foreign country. But with his willpower, Jacob managed to learn the Hebrew language and quickly assimilated into the company of his contemporaries. After graduating, he went to work to help support the family. He knew that in hard and strenuous work, and with perseverance and diligence, he could help establish the status of the family. He worked tirelessly and looked for a suitable place to work and to be able to combine pleasure with work and pay. He worked at the Weizmann Institute of Science and was considered a dedicated worker who was admired by his employers and his colleagues. Wherever he went, he had many friends for his kindness and willingness to offer help and assistance to anyone in need. Yaakov was a member of the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed movement and participated in extensive social and cultural activities. He was also an outstanding athlete, especially in the soccer field. He trained and participated in many competitions until he achieved excellent achievements and a high level. Yaakov was drafted into the IDF in early 1972 and assigned to the Armored Corps, where he was trained in a heavy truck driver course and was sent to serve as a driver in the Armored Corps School. On October 27, 1973, Yaakov was killed and killed when his vehicle hit a mine in the area of Fayed, west of the Suez Canal, and was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Rehovot.
