Aloni (Elstein), Meir
Son of Chava and Elchanan, was born on the 16th of Tishrei 5623 (16.10.1922) in Volkovysk, Poland. In 1931, at the age of nine, the family immigrated to Israel. Meir graduated from the elementary school in Tel Aviv and the Max Payne Professional School. He learned to engrave and worked in it. During the Second World War, he enlisted in the Jewish Brigade. Upon his discharge, he entered active service of the Haganah, served in the Golani Brigade, and upon the establishment of the IDF he received the rank of Second Lieutenant. He lived with his wife in Beit Alpha. With the opening of Operation Horev for the expulsion of the Egyptian army from Israel, the Golani Brigade captured the 86th Regiment in the Khan Yunis area in order to mislead the Egyptians into thinking that the IDF’s main effort would be in this direction.In this battle, Meir fell on 20 Kislev 5749 (22 December 1948). He left a wife. His daughter was born two weeks after his death. On the 6th of Elul 5709 (August 31, 1949), he was laid to rest at the Beit Alpha cemetery.
