Alon, Gil-Shalom

The son of David and Leah’s firstborn. He was born on May 1, 1949, in Mishmar Hanegev, where he graduated from elementary and high school in the kibbutz, where his parents were friends. He was fond of sports and participated in volleyball and basketball games at HaPoel, and he had a tendency to play on the stage, and when he finished his studies at the school he was accepted as a member of the kibbutz, although at a young age he could be counted on. All the members of the class went to the army and he wanted to be among them, so his parents agreed to sign the conscription forms and Gil became a soldier The IDF in January 1967. He loved the life of the army and prepared to finish a course for officers and go to officers’ course, and he was cheerful and would raise the morale of all the soldiers. And on the first day of the battles, on the 5th of Iyar 5727 (June 6, 1967), was one of the first to storm the enemy’s canals and positions in Umm Katef, Sinai, and fell in a battle there. In Bavaria and was later transferred to eternal rest in the Mishmar Hanegev cemetery. In his memory, his kibbutz devoted one of its issues. His memory was raised in the “Hand for the Fallen” issued by his company. The booklet “Brigade in the Six Day War” was mentioned. In the book “Nahal Negev in the Battle” several pages were dedicated to him. Hakibbutz Hameuchad’s booklet “Who Fell in the War” was mentioned.
