Alon (Bumgarten), Dan


Dan, son of Bella and Zalman, was born on February 2, 1953, in Jerusalem. He completed his elementary studies at the Sharet School in Kiryat Moshe and continued to study for three years at the ORT vocational school in Electronics, where he was an amateur athlete and played football, and was interested in light music, Here he even edited a special evening for his friends in the “Beatles” songs, songs by Kaveret and songs by Chava Alberstein, which he used to sing and whistled at any time, and before he enlisted in the IDF, Dan successfully passed the external matriculation exams, “in light of”. Dan was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in mid-November 1971. He volunteered with the Nahal Brigade, which was sent after basic training to Kibbutz Tzora in the Har Tuv bloc. In the kibbutz Dan bought him many friends. During the employment period he completed a training course for Marvel’s operators and after he was transferred to the Armored Corps, he was certified as a contact-loader. On the eve of the outbreak of the Yom Kippur War he did a course at the Armored Corps School. He was immediately transferred north to the Golan Heights, in order to join the sparse forces that held the line against the Syrian attacks. On October 6, 1973, after many battles and acts of heroism, his tank was damaged and exploded, and Dan was first declared missing, but later found dead and brought to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. And three brothers, who were promoted to the rank of corporal, Kibbutz Tzora, where Dan spent most of his service, published a memorial booklet in memory of his sons – his comrades who fell in battle – and discussed them.
